# How to Measure Liquidity on Hyperliquid

A single TVL or volume number does not tell you whether a Hyperliquid market can absorb your order. Execution liquidity is local to a symbol, direction, size, and moment. The strongest measurement combines top-of-book spread, cumulative depth, realized slippage, order-book refill speed, and behavior during volatility.

## Quoted liquidity

Track spread and depth within fixed basis-point bands around mid. Use dollar notional so assets with different prices are comparable. Measure both sides because sell-side and buy-side liquidity can be asymmetric.

## Executable liquidity

Simulate walking the current book for target notionals, then compare the estimate with actual realized fills. If actual slippage is systematically worse, latency or cancellations are important components of execution.

## Resilience

After a large trade removes liquidity, measure how quickly spreads and depth recover. A market with modest displayed depth but rapid refill can handle flow better than a book that looks deep once and disappears under pressure.

## Time and regime

Calculate distributions by hour, day, volatility regime, and market direction. Liquidity during calm Asian hours can differ from liquidity during a macro release or crypto-wide liquidation.

## Institutional sizing

Define maximum participation or impact limits based on measured depth and historical execution rather than a fixed percentage of account capital. A $10 million account does not justify a $1 million trade in a market that only has $100,000 of reliable depth at acceptable prices.
