# Stablecoin Economics, Protocol Revenue, and HYPE

AQAv2 creates an economic link between aligned stablecoin balances and Hyperliquid's protocol revenue. For USDC, the current framework routes approximately 90% of cost-adjusted reserve yield on Hyperliquid supply to the protocol. This sits alongside trading-fee revenue, but the two sources behave differently.

## Revenue source 1: trading activity

Spot and perpetual trading produces fees according to current market and account rules. Hyperliquid's fee documentation says protocol fees are directed to community and system destinations including HLP, deployers where applicable, and the Assistance Fund.

The Assistance Fund converts trading fees into HYPE as part of L1 execution. HYPE held by the Assistance Fund is burned, permanently reducing circulating and total supply under the current documented mechanism.

## Revenue source 2: AQAv2 reserve economics

Stablecoin reserve income depends on balances, reference rates, and time rather than turnover alone. AQAv2 sends 100% of the AQA reference rate to the protocol, which Hyperliquid describes as approximately 90% of cost-adjusted reserve yield.

Reserve-yield obligations accrue over 30-day intervals and are sent to the Assistance Fund eight days after each interval completes.

For USDC, Hyperliquid stated that AQAv2 yield accrual began on August 26, 2026, with the first payment scheduled for October 3, 2026.

## AQAv2 does not add a trading-fee discount

AQAv1 included lower taker fees, larger maker rebates, and extra fee-tier volume contribution. AQAv2 explicitly removes those benefits. Current USDC economics should therefore be modeled from reserve sharing and normal applicable trading-fee rules rather than assuming an AQAv1 discount.

## Why this changes the revenue mix

Trading revenue is highly sensitive to market activity. Reserve-yield revenue is more sensitive to aligned stablecoin balances and prevailing safe rates. The two streams can therefore move differently across market regimes.

This still does not create a mechanical HYPE valuation formula. Token price also reflects adoption, supply and demand, staking, liquidity, regulation, risk, and expectations about future cash flows.

A useful research dashboard should track aligned stablecoin supply, realized AQAv2 payments, trading-fee revenue, HYPE burned through the Assistance Fund, staking supply, and changes to AQA rules.
