Kinetiq: Liquid Staking and Productive HYPE
How kHYPE turns native HYPE staking into a liquid DeFi asset, and how Kinetiq extends it through automated strategies.
Kinetiq is a liquid staking protocol built around HYPE. A user stakes HYPE and receives kHYPE, a liquid token whose redemption value grows as staking rewards accrue. The user keeps economic exposure to staking while gaining an asset that can move through HyperEVM DeFi.
DefiLlama lists about $1.24 billion of Kinetiq TVL on Hyperliquid L1 as of August 31, 2026.
kHYPE is a claim on staked HYPE
Direct HYPE staking participates in Hyperliquid's validator system but introduces liquidity constraints around staking and unstaking. Kinetiq tokenizes that position. Users hold kHYPE while the underlying HYPE is delegated across validators through Kinetiq's staking system.
The kHYPE balance does not need to increase for rewards to accrue. Instead, its redemption value relative to HYPE can rise over time.
Liquid staking creates a second yield layer
Once staking exposure is tokenized, kHYPE can be supplied to lending markets, paired in liquidity pools, or used as collateral. A user can therefore combine native staking rewards with another DeFi strategy.
That improves capital efficiency, but the risk stack grows as well. A leveraged kHYPE loop, for example, has native staking exposure, Kinetiq smart-contract risk, lending-protocol risk, oracle risk, and liquidation risk.
Kinetiq Earn adds managed allocation
Kinetiq also offers an automated strategy vault built with Veda. Depositors can supply HYPE or kHYPE and receive vkHYPE, while the vault allocates across selected Hyperliquid DeFi opportunities.
This changes the product from liquid staking into delegated strategy execution. Users no longer choose each underlying position themselves, so curator methodology, vault permissions, underlying protocols, fees, and withdrawal timing become important.
Why Kinetiq matters
Kinetiq shows how a base network asset can become productive across several layers at once. Native HYPE secures validators, kHYPE makes that staked position transferable, and additional protocols can use kHYPE as collateral or liquidity.
The key lesson is that liquid staking does not remove staking constraints for free. It packages them into a new asset with its own liquidity and smart-contract assumptions.
